Humic Acid Counters the Effects of Herbicide Glyphosate

Modern farming practices have resulted in a huge increase in the use of the herbicide glyphosate directly on plants. Because almost all of our food today is produced via these methods, it has been reported that detectable levels of this herbicide have now been found in our soil, water, grains, meats, and even in nursing mothers breast milk.

The negative health effects of this huge increase in glyphosate are the subject of much debate and ongoing research. It is reported that glyphosate negatively affects the tight junction proteins that are the "glue" which holds the gut membrane together. Humic acid is able to adsorb (bind) glyphosate in the soil, preventing it’s uptake by plants. It is believed to bind the herbicide in the body as well, thereby protecting the integrity of the membrane.

Glyphosate is also an antibiotic, which has caused concern for the health of the good bacteria in the gut. A recent study indicated that humic acid neutralizes the antimicrobial effect of glyphosate and is therefore protective of our all-important microbiome.

Almost everyday we hear new reports about the link between good gut health and wellbeing in almost every other area of the body.  Protecting it may be one of the best things you can do to maintain your overall health or regain what you have lost.
